Quote: "There are two great days in a person's life: the day you were born and the day you discover why" --- Mark Twain Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. Purpose though divinely assigned, requires a personal responsibility to unpack, unearth and live out. Everyone as an image bearer of God possess a myriad of gifts, talents, and possibilities, yet only a few embark on the grueling journey it takes to discover and live purposefully. A study conducted by the National Library of Medicine in 2010, suggest there are a variety of factors that inhibit people from discovering their purpose- one being self-esteem. This is central to every area of one's life. From taking responsibility for personal development, to competency, self-love and motivation to mention a few according to the 2010 study. Dr. John Maxwell has studied, taught and lived out leadership for over five decades. In this episode, we dive into the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth with a look at the law of the mirror. We cover the general premise that a person has to value himself or herself before he or she can add value to themselves and others. As Dr. John Maxwell states, "growth doesn't just happen." And when a leader grows in his or her leadership, everyone connected to that leader is impacted for the best. Furthermore, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti, and Mrs. Kristin Jaeck- CEO of ReWorking Strategies LLC - a values based company in Connecticut discuss and provide some insights into what the law of the mirror is all about. Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. One of the big words in leadership research studies is "awareness." According to the Harvard Business Review, self-awareness is a key component of emotional intelligence which is the ability to recognize and understand one's own emotions, thoughts, and values and how that impacts behavior. Dr. John Maxwell has studied, taught and lived out leadership for over five decades. In this episode, we dive into the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth with a look at the law of awareness. We cover the key questions that any leader seeking to grow personally or professionally should ask to activate growth. As Dr. John Maxwell states, "growth doesn't just happen." And when a leader grows in his or her leadership, everyone connected to that leader is impacted for the best. Furthermore, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti, and Mrs. Kristin Jaeck- CEO of ReWorking Strategies LLC - a values based company in Connecticut provide some practical examples of unlocking the law of awareness. Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. Leadership is one of those human qualities that "if you see it, you know it." In a time that our world is divisive, our world could use leaders that understand what it means to go above and beyond. In a leadership study conducted by Barna Group (a Christian think tank that is over fifty years old) in 2013, it was discovered at that time that the United States was in a leadership crisis. That was eleven years ago and it looks like we are at that same place again in 2024- we have a leadership crisis in our world! Anyone that has ever experienced great leadership in any sphere, knows that feeling- as Helen Keller stated in the listed quote- its leadership that can be felt with the heart. Dr. John Maxwell has studied, taught and lived out leadership for over five decades. He provides some key principles in one of his newest books - High Road Leadership- in which he provides solutions to the current leadership crisis of our time. Our world is in desperate need of leaders in every sphere and space that knows how to bring people together rather than divide or separate people. In this episode, we dive into some key principles from High Road Leadership and what that looks like. We provide a quick overview of the three roads of leadership: high, middle and low. High Road Leaders - value others and bring people together. Middle Road Leaders - seek value from others and move back and forth between sides. Low Road Leaders - devalue others and divide people. Furthermore, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti, and Mrs. Kristin Jaeck- CEO of ReWorking Strategies LLC - a values based company in Connecticut discuss these pointers of high road leadership. For Christian leaders, a Biblical lens from 1 John 2: 6 (Whoever claims to live in Christ must live as Jesus did), takes the discussion deeper. The episode concludes with this reflective thought for all leaders - valuing others all begins with valuing yourself. As always, these leadership principles are for any leader in any industry that desires to take care of those they lead well. Pull up a chair, call a friend and take a listen and share with any industry leader in your life. Quote: "We all have strengths and weaknesses. The best advice is to embrace, focus on, and nurture our strengths" - Dr. Charles Glassman Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. God created humans in such a way that each one has a unique DNA. We see God's greatness when it comes to identical twins who share 100% of their genes. They are typically of the same gender and very difficult to tell them apart. Fraternal twins on the other hand, share 50% of their genes and can be a mix of genders and look more like siblings. Yet each twin (identical or fraternal) have unique strengths in how they are wired for life. This is just many of the reasons why God is God! None like Him or ever will be! He is God all by Himself! Dr. Don Clifton is the founder of strengths-based psychology and the grandfather of what is known as positive psychology. Clifton was counter-culture as he saw beyond the traditional field of psychology that focused on interventions as a way of helping people. Clifton saw a way of building up people through enabling conditions of life. This launched the strengths based science that sought to connect the naturally recurring patterns of people's thoughts, feelings or behaviors. He noted that these were "strengths" that made each person unique. These "strengths" when known and applied empowers people to thrive in all areas and contexts of life. In this episode, we dive into what leading with strengths is all about. We take a quick look at the law of leverage from the 16 laws of communication. In this episode, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti, and Mrs. Kristin Jaeck- CEO of ReWorking Strategies, LLC- a values based system thinking company in Connecticut discuss why leading with strengths is important, what to do with those weaknesses and how to identify professional and personal growth. Quote "Life Is Now in Session- Are You Present?" - Dr. John Maxwell Shoutout to co-host Mrs. Kristin Jaeck on her official launch here on Points of Leadership! Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. A 2023 global leadership development study by Harvard Business Publishing Corporate Learning highlighted some key things to help leaders prepare for the future and help organizations who are seeking effective approaches to be ready. From enhancing customer experience, to improving employee engagement and productivity to addressing diversity gaps in the workforce, the study provided some options for organizations to consider to help their people grow. That is commendable for organizations seeking ways to help their leaders grow. However, growth is an intentional act that every leader has to embark upon if he or she desires to be better. As Dr. John Maxwell states, "growth doesn't just happen." And when a leader grows in his or her leadership, everyone connected to that leader is impacted for the best. In this episode, we dive into the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth with a look at the law of intentionality. Just as a seed needs key things to activate its growth (water, air and sunlight), leaders also need some key things to activate their growth. In this special episode, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti, and Mrs. Kristin Jaeck- CEO of ReWorking Strategies, LLC- a values based system thinking company in Connecticut discuss three gaps that every leader needs to address in order to activate his or her growth. As always, these leadership principles are for any leader in any industry that desires to take care of those they lead well. Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. Leadership is one of the most researched areas in organizational studies and for leadership practitioners. It has been said and emphasized our world is in a leadership crisis. Everyone benefits from great leadership and as Dr. John Maxwell states, "Everyone deserves to be led well." When a leader grows in his or her leadership, everyone connected to that leader are impacted for the best. It seems easy, however, effective leaders not only bring out the best in others, but they understand the cost of their own continuous growth if they want to stay on the cutting edge of their impact for the people they lead, care for and serve. In this episode, we examine values based leadership that propels organizational effectiveness. In one of the reports published by the Journal of Values-Based Leadership, Fulford and Coleman (2022), explain the benefits of values-based leadership. They assert that values based leaders are open in sharing personal values with stakeholders and their actions and decision making processes are consistent with their values while being transparent and observed by all stakeholders and followers alike. In this episode, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti, and Mrs. Kristin Jaeck- CEO of ReWorking Strategies, LLC- a values based system thinking company in Connecticut helps companies improve their organizational effectiveness. A business woman with over three decades of experience in multiple industries, she is also a former educator that understands the public school system and the need for organizational effectiveness. Her broad perspective is a plus that helps improve outcomes for stakeholders. Quote "The eyes have one language everywhere." - George Hebert Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. In many companies around the world- Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) are standard practice to ensure employment relationships are preserved in terms of proprietary information or intellectual property. In a 2021 article, "An Obsession with Secrets", Ovide explains all the ins and outs of NDAs. Some industries use NDAs more than usual. Industries, such as Tech companies, Startups, Marketing Agencies, Manufacturers use NDAs to protect their proprietary information. This is standard practice and nothing unusual about it. However, using NDAs to cover up or silence employees who have experienced wrong doing in the hands of a leader is not standard practice. We are seeing more of this misuse of NDAs in the religious world. Drs. Johnson and Feyi Obamehinti discuss what this looks like in the church in their recent episode on the Oasis of Hope Podcast. In this episode of Points of Leadership Podcast, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti shares three things to consider for anyone that NDAs is part of their employment relationship to protect the company's proprietary information. For new graduates entering the work force, know these three things before signing that required NDA. Quote "I think we might find more non-Christians turning to Christ if we as Christians concentrated considerably more on a God-honoring lifestyle than simply on evangelistic strategies. Obviously we need both. But I think we are shooting ourselves in the foot if we try to witness apart from Christlike conduct.” - Doug Sherman and William Hendricks, Authors of “Your Work Matters to God” Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. In a 2023 Gallup article on how spirituality affects well-being in all areas of life with a focus on the workplace, Blankemeier and Levey provide some tools for better well-being. Another report by Gallup and Radiant Foundation on Faith and Wellness: The Worldwide Connection Between Spirituality and Wellbeing, highlights the importance of spirituality and well-being. The report adds to the existing body of research findings that people with a spiritual life often have better well-being than people that do not. The Gallup report uses the word Religiosity for spirituality. This word holds more admiration to the widespread knowledge of having faith in God. Simply put, the report is making the claims that spiritual people tend to have better meaningful life purposes. For believers in Christ, we know the reason why we have purpose is because of Jesus Christ. He is the author and finisher of our faith. Furthermore, the Faith and Wellness Gallup report explains the potentially positive effects of faith on well-being in a time of heightened negative emotions. When we look around our world or any industry, we can easily see and find the negativity, downward spiral of well-being and much more. The times we live in call for spiritual leadership, helping people navigate and orient their lives to the Greater purpose of life, that is found in Jesus Christ- the Savior of the world. The Faith and Wellness report indicates that globally, experiences of negative emotions — such as sadness, worry, stress and anger — are at their highest level in more than a decade of measurement. The ultimate goal in measuring well-being is not to point to the metrics, but to maximize positive outcomes and minimize negative ones so people can live the best life possible. This is where spiritual leadership comes in. If you have a walk with God, your industry needs you. Your team needs you. Your world needs you. Your spiritual leadership is crucial in helping people minimize negative outcomes by building their faith in Christ. This is the time to live out that unshakeable kingdom of God that resides in you. Living for God is a high calling. Trust God to do the heart work of salvation as you live out for Him and continue in prayer. Everyone’s eternal destination is important and believers in Christ are called to partner with God for the salvation of people in all places. However, it is not that simple sharing your faith in the workplace. Learn more on how to stay safe in the workplace while living out and sharing your faith in Christ at The Thriving Life on Patheos. Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead. In a 2018 issue of Psychological Reports- a bi-monthly peer reviewed journal that publishes original contributions to the field of general psychology, Schimschal, S. E., & Lomas, T. (2019), states that grit has an impact on positive leadership and extraordinary performance. They conducted a study among one hundred leaders across a range of industries. The study results indicated that grit positively correlated with positive leadership, and perseverance exhibited a stronger relationship than passion. Grit expert- Dr. Angela Duckworth alludes to the results of this study by Schimschal, S. E., & Lomas, T. (2019. She attests to the fact that grit is a combination of passion and perseverance. Life in all its forms, brings with it ups and downs;and grit is that solid glue to stay unhinged from life's throws. In this special episode, Drs. Johnson and Feyi Obamehinti, host Holocaust hero and survivor- Mrs. Rosian Zerner- who was born in Lithuania. In 1941, when Germany invaded their town, she and her family were confined to the Kovno concentration camp. Through the help of her parents, she was able to escape through a hole they dug under the fence of the confinement quarters. She was met by her father's secretary and hidden by several rescuers before being liberated by Soviet troops in 1944. Surviving such atrocities to live a successful life takes the power of forgiveness, grit and love, both for self and others. The Bible provides the guide on the freedom that comes through forgiveness. The medical field attests to the power of forgiveness. In a series written by John Hopkins Medicine, it states that one's health depends on forgiveness. In an article in the Harvard Medical School published in 2021, some methods of forgiveness were explored to help people overcome unforgiveness. However the Bible already provided why unforgiveness can be a self-imposed prison for anyone. Matthew 6:14 states, "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." Take a listen as Mrs. Zerner shares why she forgave her persecutors, how she was able to do that and how she has blazed a trail for peace and love around the world, speaking out about her lived experience as a Holocaust survivor. This is one episode you do not want to miss. Tell a friend and pull up a chair with your favorite tea or coffee. Then, take a listen and share with any industry leader in your life.
