Quote: "You are the sum of the 5 people that you spend your time with” --- Jim Rohn

Points of Leadership is all about equipping leaders in maximizing their leadership for the people they lead.

The value of an environment cannot be underestimated. In a 2023 article by the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, physical environments where children live affect their development and health. In fact, a child’s environmental exposure early in life can cause lasting changes in developing biological systems. Whether for good or bad, the environment we spend most of our time in has lasting effects.

The quote by Jim Rohn provides insights on how important the environment and the people we spend most of our time with affect both our personal and professional growth. Rohn coined the quote after a research study based on the law of averages. "When it comes to relationships, we are greatly influenced - whether we like it or not - by those closest to us. It affects our way of thinking, our self-esteem, and our decisions. Of course, everyone is their own person, but research has shown that we're more affected by our environment than we think.

The law of Environment states that growth thrives in conducive surroundings. It becomes expedient then for leaders to frequently assess their environment for growth alignment. Sometimes, leaders need to change their environments to grow. Furthermore, it is possible to change without growing but it is impossible to grow without changing.

In this episode of Points of Leadership, continuing our discussion on Dr. John Maxwell's 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth , we dive into the chapter on law of environment. We begin with a quick overview using the analogy of a plant, and the key components it needs to grow. Without sunlight, water, air, temperature and the right soil, a plant will shrivel and die off. And with the presence of all necessary components, the plant flourishes well.

Furthermore, Dr. Feyi Obamehinti, and Mrs. Kristin Jaeck- CEO of ReWorking Strategies LLC - a values-based company in Connecticut discuss how to determine what conducive environment looks like and how to assess what nurtures towards growth. This is a great jumpstart to cast vision for this year for both your personal and professional growth. As always, the leadership principles we share on Points of Leadership are for any leader in any industry that desires to take care of those they lead well through the overflow of his or her life. So, pull up a chair, call a friend and take a listen and share with any industry leader in your life.  Happy New Year Points of Leadership Community! Our First Episode of 2025!
